The Master Storyteller

John Grisham invokes a love or hate reaction among readers. I'm a big fan of John Grisham, I've read 17 of his books. I'm a voracious reader but I only bought few books that are brand new, not counting the textbooks I used in school. I'm a believer of BOOKSALE. The brand new books I own are mostly given by friends. On Christmas I always put a particular book on my wish list. I've grown tired seeing my friends getting disappointed when they received an oversized shirt or something they simply don't like. I always enlist books on my christmas wishes.

Going back to John Grisham, He's a gifted and master storyteller. His books were mostly high-tension legal thriller. It was always about a brilliant lawyer, manipulating money; his books always end with the lead character fleeing to a paradise like Mexico or the Carribean.

I picked out a John Grisham book in BookSale, I contemplated for a while, when I was certain I haven't read it yet, I went to the counter and paid for it. I always get thrilled when I see a new book with Grisham's name on it. It simply seduces me.

THE LAST JUROR was set in a fictitious town of Clanton, Mississippi, which I recalled wast the setting of "A Time to Kill," his first book. This time the main character is not a lawyer but journalist/newspaper owner and the antagonist is not a Mafia or a big corrupt company. The book has the usual formula of crime, lawyers and courtrooms. It's not his usual complicated legal drama.

The story frankly isn’t that impressive. I was expecting his usual legal thriller and courtroom drama, But the content is enjoyable. Grisham has always been famous for his great twist. The ending usually make or break the the book, as always Grisham is great with endings.

I like Miss Callie's character, she had me paused and put down The Last Juror and read my Devotional Book. Miss Callie pointed that it was not her place to judge another person's soul, only God can. It's something we often do without hesitation. It's good to think before saying something, better yet, hold that thought and never let it slip your mouth. After all, God is The Last Juror.

It's still one of the best Grishams ever.

♥Book Synopsis♥
(the synopsis is copied from some site)
In 1970, one of Mississippi`s weekly newspapers went bankrupt. Ownership was assumed by Willie Traynor, but the future looked grim until a young mother was murdered by a member of the Padgitt family. Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper. The murderer, Danny Padgitt, threatened revenge against the jurors at his trial yet they found him guilty. But in Mississippi in 1970, "life" didn`t mean "life", and nine years later Danny Padgitt was paroled. He returned to Ford County, and the retribution began ...
